Professional Statement

My passion lies in the usability and design of communication. I strive to make information usable and beautiful. Sounds great, but what does that look like practically? Information is usable when it steps outside the boundaries of binary and actually informs, instructs, and increases knowledge. Information is beautiful when it steals your attention, satisfies your eyes, and stimulates a desire for more. Focusing on these elements allows me to improve both the quality of content and the way it is presented.

As a technical writer, I step into the shoes of the user and avoid the inside perspective that plagues many manuals and help systems. As a web designer, I create environments -- not just sites -- where a visitor feels comfortable discovering more than what they came for.

What is good technical communication? Defining it isn't the easiest thing in the world, because it has to be experienced. If you've quickly understood how to write that program with the help of a SDK, you've probably crossed paths with a good technical writer. If you've been able to navigate a website thick with data, you've likely visited the masterpiece of a good designer. People just want things to work, and the best technical communication often goes unnoticed. In many ways, I'm in the business of being invisible for the sake of the end user.

Thanks for visiting this site. I have chosen to go beyond claiming expertise, and instead I let my experience and skill shine through my work. After all, clear and concise information speaks for itself.
